Steven Ross

Steven is co-founder of Eastside Yoga. Born in Scotland, he has spent the last eleven years in Texas, where he has practiced, studied and is now teaching yoga in Austin. Certified by Srivatsa Ramaswami to teach vinyasa krama yoga, a systematic method of hatha yoga, integrating mind, body and deep breathing.
Steven has devoted the last ten years to spiritual study, bhakti yoga and meditation with several yogis and renowned spiritual teachers. Steven's classes are compassionate and thoughtful by striving to facilitate the physical, mental and spiritual growth of his students.

Festival Presentation: Introduction to Breathing in Asana

As we begin to practice yoga, our natural tendency is to hold the breath or use stress induced breathing while holding a posture. This creates tension and stress within causing you to drain prana (energy), which is counter intuitive to the purpose of hatha yoga. There are several ways to breathe in asanas that help to relax, release tension and build energy. We will explore the foundation of breathing while practicing yoga, and how it effects the body and mind.
